Product Information
After seven long years of music research, Theatrum Chemicum is back with the new album De Rebus Incognitis , to go straight forward from the two previous CDs “Verso la Luce” (1994 -MMM-eee30-I) and “Clepsydra” (1997 – MMM – eee39). Gone are the most peculiar melodic components of the Theatrum Chemicum music: oboe on melody and synthesizers on harmony as on the previous CDs: this time the music is more experimental-oriented. The name of the album, in latin, meaning “About the Unknown Things” epitomizes the concept behind the work: a journey to the centre of the world of sounds abandoned from more than 50 years, in search of sounds between music and noise, with a musical balance born from a joyful use of the tried and true instruments of the electronic pioneer age. De Rebus Incognitis contains seven pieces, the “Concerto Elettrosonico No. 1” in three movements, the suite “Comedia”, in three parts; all pieces are composed by Cosimi and Di Cioccio; the connection with the musical world is strong and it is lined with the new spirit of electronic experimentation. The album was recorded in September 2003 in the two personal recording studios of Cosimi (N.O.S.E. Not Ordinary Sound Experience Studio) and Di Cioccio (Alpha-Omega Studio); there was in use an impressive amount of analog stuff: Minimoog, Doepfer Modular A-100 & Vocoder, Doepfer Ribbon Trautonium, E.M:S. Synthy A.K.S., A.R.P. 2600 & Odyssey, Korg MS-20 & SQ-10. In addition, there are always the two Big Briar Theremin 91c & Etherwave, the Oboe from Di Cioccio (with and without reeds), the sound treatments on the external sound sources and the analog and digital loopers for the creation of sound landscapes.
